Well the troops landed yesterday afternoon after a 6 hour FULL plane ride. The first thing B said after walking off the plane, was "I haven't pissed in 8 hours", get out of my way. Strangely enough neither had the rest of us as we had all been packed in window and center seats.

Took a leisurely drive down the coast towards Davenport. Along the way we stopped at Half Moon Bay. It was beautiful and mostly deserted - only 2 others collecting driftwood for an evening bonfire.

The distance to the beach was deceiving. The boys hiked down to the beach disappearing from site down the cliffs and through the scrubby dunes. They reappeared 15 minutes later, stripped down and ran into the Pacific - just like in the movies.
After some spicy tacos and people watching, we worked our way back via back roads and drove through Basin Redwood Forest. The forest was amazing. The trees were huge and lush. Driving through in the convertible with the top down was a real treat. Arrived at the hotel at 10:30 and fell over.

Eventually we made our way to the rental cars where there were no cars. Had to wait for one, but it was worth it. We have a Toyota Sedona convertible. It's fabulous and roomy. We had the top down for the rest of the day until it got down to 53 degrees. No one wanted to be the first one to ask to put the top up - it's a guy thing.

We found a great place to eat. The Whale City Bakery Bar and Grill sat across the street from the ocean. It was clearly a local joint with live music but was on the main drag so tourists werw welcome as well. The King of Jordan and his security entourage had been there the day before. He was touring the coast riding a Harley.
